Over the course of her first term at school, Matilda and Miss Honey have a profound effect on each other’s lives, as Miss Honey begins not only to recognize but also appreciate Matilda’s extraordinary personality. Matilda’s school life isn’t completely smooth sailing, however – the school’s mean headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, hates children and just loves thinking up new punishments for those who don’t abide by her rules. But Matilda has courage and cleverness in equal amounts, and could be the school pupils’ saving grace!

Once On This Island - December 5-20, 2020

Once on This Island

Celebrate storytelling with this rousing Calypso-flavored tale of one small girl who finds love in a world of prejudice.

From the Tony Award-winning songwriting team of Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Seussical, Ragtime), comes the Olivier Award-winning  Once on This Island. This highly original and theatrical Caribbean adaptation of the popular fairy tale,  The Little Mermaid, garnered eight Tony nominations for its Broadway run, including Best Musical, Book and Score, and just completed its very successful Broadway revival.

Ti Moune, a peasant girl, rescues a wealthy boy from the other side of the island, Daniel, with whom she falls in love. Unbeknownst to Ti Moune, the pompous gods who preside over the island make a bet with one another over which is stronger, love or death, the stakes being Ti Moune’s life. When she pursues Daniel, who has returned to his people, Ti Moune is shunned because of her lowly status. Her determination and capacity to love, though, is not enough to win Daniel’s heart, and Ti Moune pays the ultimate price; but the gods turn Ti Moune into a tree that grows so strong and so tall, it breaks the wall that separates the societies and ultimately unites them.

The story takes place in the early 1900’s, and is packed with exciting Caribbean inspired music. Come away to an island with us and experience the magic.

Once On This Island runs online December 5-20, 2020.

Disney's Beauty and the Beast: The Broadway Musical

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast

SCP’s Annual Junior Production

“Be Our Guest!” The Academy Award-winning film comes to life in this romantic and beloved take on the classic fairytale.

Step into the enchanted world of Broadway’s modern classic,  Disney’s Beauty and the Beast, an international sensation that played a remarkable 13-year run on Broadway and has been produced in 37 countries worldwide. Based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature, the stage version includes all of the wonderful songs written by Alan Menken and the late Howard Ashman, along with new songs by Mr. Menken and Tim Rice. The original Broadway production ran for over thirteen years and was nominated for nine Tony Awards, including Best Musical.

The classic story tells of Belle, a young woman in a provincial town, and the Beast, who is really a young prince trapped under the spell of an enchantress. If the Beast can learn to love and be loved, the curse will end and he will be transformed into his former self. But time is running out. If the Beast does not learn his lesson soon, he and his household will be doomed for all eternity.

With a story that takes place in the mid-1700’s in France, this “tale as old as time” is filled with spectacular music the whole family knows.

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast will run February 19 – March 7, 2021.
Auditions will be held in November!

The legendary love triangle of King Arthur, Guenevere and Sir Lancelot leaps from the pages of T.H. White’s novel in Lerner and Loewe’s award-winning, soaring musical.

Set in mid-12th century England, this is a musical rarely performed in its full grandeur. Sunnyvale Community Players is proud to produce this show with a full 30+ strong cast and the original full orchestration of 25 live musicians.

Borrowing from the Arthurian legends,  Lerner and Loewe’s  Camelot is the duo’s fantastical masterpiece which triumphed on Broadway in a legendary original production that lead to a film version, and numerous revivals in New York, London and across the globe. Its Original Broadway Cast Album topped the charts  for a record 60 weeks, with a rich score boasting such gems  as “If Ever I Would Leave You,” “I Loved You Once in Silence,” “The Lusty Month of May,” and of course, “Camelot.”

An idealistic young King Arthur hopes to create a kingdom built on honor and dignity, embodied by his Knights of The Round Table.  His Ideals, however are tested when his lovely queen, Guenevere, falls in love with the young Knight, Lancelot and the fate of the kingdom hangs in the balance.

The original Broadway production of “Camelot” was a highly successful stage vehicle for Richard Burton, Julie Andrews and Robert Goulet. The show ran on Broadway for 873 performances, followed by two years on the road in the US, two more in London, and a further two in Australia, won four Tony Awards, enjoyed three Broadway revivals and was made into an Oscar-winning film in 1967 starring Richard Harris and Vanessa Redgrave.

Camelot will run April 17 – May 9, 2021.
Auditions will be held later this year!

We look forward to seeing you at all of these fantastic performances in our 52nd Season, a Celebration of Life and Love!

Which commercial version will be done of Camelot? Tams-Witmark has two. In Act Two you either have the forest scene with the animals and Morgan LeFey, or the song “Fie on Goodness” with the knights, also, in Act One, you have the option of adding “Take Me to the Fair.” Will be fun to see which options are selected.

    • Thanks for your question Ted,

We will be performing the original broadway version, which is now licensed by MTI rather than Tams-Witmark. Our performances will include both “Fie on Goodness” and “Take Me to the Fair”
