A Message from SCP’s President

Dear Friends of SCP,

In light of all the news we’ve been hearing about COVID-19, our first priority is for the health and safety of our staff, cast and patrons.

As a part of the Social Distancing plan, the City of Sunnyvale has closed the theatre and community center until early April at the earliest to start. We are closely monitoring the situation with the City of Sunnyvale and County of Santa Clara, as well as following the guidelines they set.

Due to this, and other protective measures, we have been forced to stop preparation for our final show of the season: Big Fish. At this time we are planning to postpone this production to later in the year, and we will keep you informed as we know more. We are deeply saddened to have to cancel the April opening, as the cast and staff have been hard at work and creating something very special for us all.

In light of these changes, along with the AB5 law that went into effect Jan 1, 2020, the financial state of all community theaters is challenged. AB5 no longer allows contracted workers for stipend, but creates the need to hire each worker as an employee, along with the appropriate costs that these new contracts bring.

I am asking for your support during this trying time.

Show cancellations and postponements have a devastating financial impact on nonprofit theater groups like SCP. Should Big Fish ultimately get canceled or if you are unable to attend a rescheduled date, please consider turning your tickets back as a donation to SCP and making a charitable gift to help offset the expenses incurred by this situation. SCP would be deeply indebted to all support we can get during this challenging time for everyone. As of now we will hold your tickets for a future showing of Big Fish.

These are unprecedented times for our community, and SCP will continue to share email updates and also post on our website as well as social media pages. Our thoughts are with those affected around the globe and we wish them a full recovery.

We thank you for your continued support and patronage of our community theater, and look forward to seeing you at our future shows.

Warmly, and with hope,

Minna Rogers
President, SCP Board
